The Exemplary Life of Judge George Leighton

“Judge George Leighton’s long and illustrious life is one that I and many other public servants greatly respect, admire and strive to emulate. His good, just and selfless works that spanned decades rightly earned him an enduring place in history, his name immortalized on the Cook County Criminal Courthouse. Judge Leighton was a true mentor for so many members of the legal and justice communities. He especially carved a pathway to success for African American attorneys and judges in Chicago and Illinois to follow. Judge Leighton’s compassion and unrelenting quests for justice will be remembered for generations to come.

My thoughts are with his family members at this time of sorrow. We have all lost a magnificent presence with the passing of Judge George Leighton at the age of 105 years.”
