Statement from Dorothy Brown regarding Chicago Tribune’s expose on sexual harassment and assault in Chicago Public Schools (CPS).
I am appalled, saddened and disgusted about the Chicago Tribune’s expose outlining issues of sexual abuse and assault within the Chicago Public School (CPS) system. It should deeply concern all citizens of this city that the CPS system has failed so dismally in protecting our most valuable, precious and vulnerable resource, our children.
As a parent, what I know is that the strongest measures in the world should be in place to protect our children. As a lawyer and CPA, what I know for sure is that there must always be checks and balances in place and investigators must be independent and provide all parties their due process rights; and where a crime has been committed that it is reported immediately.
Given the opportunity to serve as Mayor I will institute a proactive strategy that states loudly and clearly – there is zero tolerance for anyone that abuses or endangers our children in any way.
