Dorothy Brown announces candidacy for mayor of the city of Chicago
Brown pledges to improve safety, create fair and equitable community development, reform public education and foster economic development
(CHICAGO) — April 22, 2018 – Today Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, the Honorable Dorothy Brown announced her candidacy for the office of Mayor of the City of Chicago at the Chicago Hilton and Towers.
“I am pleased and honored to announce my candidacy for Mayor of the City of Chicago alongside my longtime supporters, friends, and colleagues,” said Brown. “My demonstrated experience leading one of the country’s largest governmental agencies, coupled with my business and financial background, history of grassroots community activism and involvement with bringing change to people’s lives has prepared me for the challenges of leading the city of Chicago. Chicago’s opportunities are huge, as are its challenges, together we can make our city work better for everyone.”
Brown said she is committed to building a movement within the city where everyone can flourish and find their place. “We have always been known as a city of neighborhoods, and I believe if we concentrate on making sure every block is a world-class block; then every community will be a world-class community; every neighborhood will be a world-class neighborhood, and ultimately Chicago will be the gold standard of a world-class city.” Brown offered that building one Chicago means stabilizing neighborhoods through economic investment; ensuring workers have access to good jobs and fair wages; addressing crime so all residents feel safe inside and outside their homes, and educating all of the city’s children so they can compete globally.
According to Brown, today’s announcement marks the beginning of her campaign and her outreach to all Chicagoans to share with them her goals for economic development and educational reform.
“Most importantly our campaign will be built on the pillars of ‘respect’, ‘pride’ ‘change’ and ‘hope’, she said. “My goal is to engage the many stakeholders that value our city and desire to work collaboratively in achieving change for all people.”
Brown first became Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County in 2000, and has since won re-election five times, most recently in 2016, by a margin of more than 14%. She has brought revolutionary changes to the operations of the office through her focus on technology and providing effective and efficient customer services. She has implemented a host of innovative programs, which have streamlined processes, saving millions of dollars for taxpayers.
Brown is an attorney, a CPA and holds an MBA.
